READ TIME: 1 MIN.
New Orleans, LA (June 7, 2017) - While the president may not acknowledge Pride Week, or month (or gays for that matter), New Orleans celebrates it and welcomes all to this diverse and authentic city. Pride Week in New Orleans involves a week of activities that attracts the LBGTQ community from around the world.
With Pride weekend set for June 9-11, an even larger crowd than usual is arriving in NOLA this year, thanks to a video that went viral featuring a 'Reverse Parade' in which members and supporters of the LBGTQ community marched backwards during Mardi Gras symbolizing where the world may be headed if people are not accepted for who they are.
The event and corresponding film celebrate New Orleans as the city that has been and will continue to be "Always Open." Through word of mouth, over four hundred citizens gathered and volunteered their time to create the message of diversity and equality. The video had over 9.5 million views, with 1.4 billion media impressions and 55 million unique media views.
Activities for Pride Week include a parade, events, food, music, and a celebration of joy as the LBGTQ community gathers to share in friendship and diversity.
