Report: Tom Hardy Drops Out of Elton John Biopic, Taron Egerton In?
READ TIME: 1 MIN.
It looks like Tom Hardy will no longer be playing Elton John in an upcoming biopic about the singer, according to a report from The Daily Mail.
The newspaper reports Hardy signed on to play John in the film, called "Rocketman," about four years ago but now Taron Egerton, star of the "Kingmsan" franchise, is in talks to fill in the role. The Daily Mail notes the 27-year-old British actor is speaking with "Rocketman" director Dexter Fletcher and producer Matthew Vaughn.
Fletcher directed the feel-good sports film "Eddie the Eagle" last year, which also starred Egerton.
"Rocketman" was written by Lee Hall, who worked on the "Billy Elliot Musical" with John and has been in the works for a few years now. The Daily Mail reports the biopic could film as early as this year but there's no official word just yet.
The news comes after it was announced a biopic about Queen front man Freddie Mercury would soon start filming with "Mr. Robot" star Rami Malek.
