Watch: Ellen Scares Sam Smith - Twice

Sam Smith stopped by "The Ellen Show" Tuesday, where he promoted his upcoming sophomore album "The Thrill of It All" and discussed his Oscars controversy.

But the British crooner should have known that speaking with Ellen wasn't going to be like a typical interview - especially during Halloween season!

Smith was explaining how he believes his new home is haunted, saying it's 300 years old but he "has a good relationship with the ghosts."

"Sometimes at night, I get up and I'm like - leave me alone," he said. "Get out!"

As Ellen talks to Smith about his haunted house, an "Ellen" staff member wearing a ghost sheet is sneaking up behind Smith and eventually scares him.

"Oh, my god. I thought it was going to come out of this," he said pointing to a coffee table with a lid. Of course, Smith was correct and as soon as he finished his sentence, another ghoul popped out and gave him a fright.

"Oh, my god. My heart!" he yelled.
