Newly-released images preview Kristen Stewart ("Charlie's Angels") and Mackenzie Davis ("Terminator: Dark Fate") as a same-sex couple in out "Veep" actor and film director Clea DuVall's upcoming comedy "Happiest Season." The images, exclusive to "People" Magazine, were shared on Twitter by DuVall, who also co-wrote the screenplay.
All I ever wanted was a holiday movie that represented my experience so I decided to make one. Here's a first look at @HappiestSeason courtesy of @people!!! ???????????????? pic.twitter.com/91jQ9kEDkH– Clea DuVall (@cleaduvall) September 2, 2020
DuVall's film, a major motion picture slated to hit theaters at Thanksgiving, will be a rainbow-wrapped present for Christmas movie lovers and LGBTQ cinema enthusiasts, and that, the director said, is the point.
Calling herself "a huge fan of Christmas movies," DuVall told "People" that the film "felt like a great opportunity to tell a universal story from a new perspective."
As previously reported at EDGE, "Happiest Season" also stars out actor Dan Levy, who is known for starring in and co-creating the acclaimed comedy series "Schitt's Creek."
The Hollywood Reporter explained the plot last January, letting readers know that Stewart plays a character whose "plan to propose to her girlfriend (Davis) while at her family's annual holiday party is upended when she discovers her partner hasn't yet come out to her conservative parents."
The parents in question are two more well-known stars: Victor Garber ("Tales of the City," "Schitt's Creek") and Mary Steenbergen ("Grace and Frankie," "Orange is the New Black").
