Actress Javicia Leslie recently teased fans with a preview on Instagram of her Batwoman character, The Daily Mail reports.
The 33 year old actress will portray the character Ryan Wilder in season two, and will be "the first Black actress to play the superhero in a live-action television series." Leslie promises to put her own touch on the Batwoman character, captioning her Instagram post with "Look out, Gotham, I'm suited up and ready to go."
In the first season, Kate Kane (played by Ruby Rose), cousin of Bruce Wayne, "set out to overcome her demons and become a symbol of hope by protecting the streets of Gotham City as Batwoman," according to the Daily Mail. Just as Kane was an out lesbian, so too will be Ryan Wilder.
Fulfilling a lifelong dream, Leslie, the 33-year old actress said in a statement in July:
"I am extremely proud to be the first Black actress to play the iconic role of Batwoman on television, and as a bisexual woman, I am honored to join this groundbreaking show which has been such a trailblazer for the LGBTQ+ community."
