OutThere Releases Luxury LGBTQ Travel Trend Report

LGBTQ travel site OutThere has released its annual luxury travel trends report, and the news is promising – if you have deep pockets. The survey tapped 2,500 of the brand's core audience, described as "affluent, opinion-leading and worldly travelers."

OutThere identified ten trends, which seem to align with other reports from Globetrotter and Cond Nast Traveller

1. Crowds are a Thing of the Past – Luxury travelers have often sought the exclusive, and the future only amplifies this desire. "Private jets, heli-lifts, yachts, islands, buyouts and by-invitation-only itineraries dominate at the very top end of the wealth spectrum," says OutThere.

2. Safari in the Concrete Jungle? – Despite the desire for privacy, queer elite travelers will still gravitate toward big cities. Eighty-eight percent of respondents said they'd "repopulate city-based hotels and experiences, as quickly as we can, as soon as city-destinations reopen, and as long as it is safe to do so."

3. Global Impact Takes Center Stage – And we don't mean skipping towel service one day. A whopping 96% of OutThere travelers won't consider booking a property that isn't environmentally friendly.

4. Dj vu – While we continue to add destinations to our bucket lists, it appears that our first ventures will be to the familiar, whether that be a locale, tour operator, or relying on personal recommendations.

5. Call in the Experts – Even though it's relatively easy and convenient to self-book travel, travel agents are seeing a resurgence, with 66% of respondents intending to book 2021 trips with a travel advisor that can help navigate safety protocols, best practices and hard-to-find offers.

6. The Great Beyond – Adventure travel and "transformative experiences that match our values" are a top priority, whether that be a small cruise ship, safari, or luxury train.

7. What's the Occasion? – Frankly, it doesn't seem to matter. We all want to go somewhere and celebrate something. Anything. A missed milestone birthday, graduation or delayed honeymoon all sound like good reasons to get packing.

8. A New Renaissance – We're all craving cultural attractions. Once reopened in full, travelers will want to experience everything from VIP seats at a Broadway show to an evening at the Vienna State Opera (and a slice of Sacher-Torte, while you're at it).

9. Baby, It's Cold Outside – Ski resorts took a major hit this year and hope to bounce back. Not a cheap hobby, it's no surprise that luxury travelers love to hit the slopes. Experts anticipate a demand surge as skiers and snowboarders try to capitalize on a missed season.

10. All Aboard – Forty-six percent of OutThere travelers are considering a holiday cruise in 2021. From luxury ocean liners like the Queen Mary 2 to smaller vessels with just a few hundred guests offer plenty of options to create your own version of "Below Deck."
