The cruise industry is receiving a much-need jolt thanks to the long-lashed talent of drag queen royalty, including Jackie Beat, Lady Bunny, Varla Jean Merman, and Miss Coco Peru. The Legends of Drag Cruise, produced by Michael Levitt, will take over Holland America's five-star luxury liner, the MS Koningsdam for a seven-night Mexican Riviera cruise.
"After a year in lockdown during the pandemic, can anyone think of a better way to start the New Year than by cruising the Mexican Riviera with these four Drag Legends that are sure to bring seven nights of non-stop laughter and fun?" said Levitt.
Master of Ceremonies Frank DeCaro will keep the ship's entertainment sailing along as the vessel departs from San Diego with ports of call in Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan and Cabo San Lucas.
After a year of remote performances, the roster of drag queens is raring to set sail.
"Do you have any idea how stir crazy I have to be to go on a f@#$ing cruise with these three bitter old bitches? KIDDING! I honestly can't wait for this legendary, historical, iconic, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to hit the high seas and share the stage with these fellow titans of drag!" exclaimed Jackie Beat.
The award-winning MS Koningsdam is one of Holland America's newest ships and is the most technologically advanced and most luxurious in their fleet. Able to accommodate 2,650 guests, the vessel won USA Today's Best Mid-Sized Ship (2019) and boasts a panoramic World Stage (where the drag queens will perform), featuring a 270-degree LED screen backdrop.
"This cast! It's so rare that I get called 'the pretty one.' I don't normally perform in boats... except for the time I borrowed RuPaul's shoes," said Lady Bunny.
The Legends of Drag Cruise sails from January 9 - 16, 2022, with interior cabins starting at $1,949.
Other LGBTQ tour operators hope to capitalize on queer consumers' desire to travel once again. VACAYA returns to the Caribbean with Celebrity Millennium (January 10-17, 2022), with more far-reaching adventures planned for Iceland (September 3-10, 2021), Seychelles (February 15-23, 2022) and Antarctica (December 6-17, 2022).
Brand g, known for its bespoke river cruise offerings, returns to its most popular offering, the Danube River, August 16-25, 2021, and continues to set sail more than a dozen additional itineraries through 2021 and 2022, including Panama, Burgundy and Provence along the Rhone, and Ganges River.
