John Logan to Make Film Directorial Debut with Horror Movie Set in Gay Conversion Camp

Out Tony award winner and three-time Oscar nominee John Logan will be making his directorial debut with Blumhouse's new horror movie "Whistler Camp," Deadline reports.

"'Whistler Camp' is a queer empowerment story set at a gay conversion camp. The film, we hear, is currently casting."

Logan received his Oscar noms for "The Aviator," "Hugo," and "Gladiator." He received a Tony award for "Red," his play about artist Mark Rothko. He is currently represented on Broadway for the book to the musical "Moulin Rouge." On television he created and was the sole writer of the television series "Penny Dreadful," which ran for two seasons on Showtime. He returned to the series last year for a follow-up, "Penny Dreadful: City of Angels," for which he was executive producer, creator and one of its writers.

According to the website Slash Film, Blumhouse confirmed that Logan will be writing the script as well. Jason Blum will produce the film, along with Michael Aguilar ("Penny Dreadful," "Kidding"). No release date has been set.
