PopUps: Gaga Thanks Fans Who Got 'Artpop' to Chart Amid Campaign for Album's Sequel

READ TIME: 2 MIN.

Lady Gaga is thanking fans who are trying to get the pop star to release a sequel to her third album "Artpop," which came out in 2013, after it re-entered the top charts on iTunes this week, Entertainment Weekly reports.

The album "reached the top tier of the United States iTunes album sales chart as a fan petition calling for the singer-songwriter to release B-sides from the LP gains heavy traction on social media," EW writes.

"Artpop" jumped to the number two spot on the iTunes chart as fans pass around the petition, urging Interscope Records to release "Artpop Act II." As of this writing, the petition has over 40,000 signatures.

Taking to Twitter, Gaga thanked her fans for their interest, which at the time of its released received mixed-to-negative reviews.

Back in 2013, Gaga teased that an "act two" for "Artpop" was in the works yet nothing was ever released.

Earlier this month, EW reported in a separate article that DJ White Shadow, one of the main producers of "Artpop," wrote a lengthy message to fans who showed support and interest in releasing a second LP, saying he's "amazed how much you all still care about that era, and about some songs you have never heard."

"Making music and delivering it the way 'ARTPOP' was made and delivered was particularly difficult," he wrote, adding that the experience of making the album was like a skydiving crashing without a parachute. "So many scumbags trying to latch on to the train I had worked so hard to get out of the station. So much transition and turmoil. Let me tell you that I have never been so broken as a human being the day when that record was turned in. I was nearly dead."

In a 2014 interview with Harper's Bazaar, Gaga opened up about the difficult process of making "Artpop," her follow-up to her massively popular 2010 album "Born This Way," saying she was "depressed" after the album was released.

"I couldn't even feel my own heartbeat. I was angry, cynical, and had this deep sadness like an anchor dragging everywhere I go. I just didn't feel like fighting anymore. I didn't feel like standing up for myself one more time – to one more person who lied to me," she said at the time.

Gaga's latest album "Chromatica" was released last year. Revisit the "Artpop" single "Applause" below.
