Franklin Graham Joins Campaign Against Pride Flags Being Flown at Embassies
READ TIME: 2 MIN.
In the past, Franklin Graham has been called out for his homophobic views, which included agreeing with "Duck Dynasty" star Phil Robertson's comments equating homosexuality with bestiality, and claiming the "architect" behind same sex marriage "is none other than Satan himself."
So it shouldn't be surprising that the evangelical leader would oppose Pride flags being flown at U.S. Embassies FranklinGraham|in a Facebook post.
He also expressed his thoughts in a tweet.
Last Thursday it was announced that "Secretary of State Antony Blinken has issued a blanket authorization for U.S. diplomatic outposts around the world to fly the Pride flag on the same flagpole as the U.S. flag at their embassy or consulate showcasing support for LGBTQ rights," reported Foreign Policy.
In his Facebook post Graham wrote: "Just because something is 'authorized,' that doesn't make it right! Why should a flag representing one group of people and a specific agenda be literally raised up above all others and allowed to fly at our embassies and consulates? The embassies represent the United States of America on foreign soil–only the U.S. flag should be flown. Not the gay pride flag, not the Christian flag, not any other flag. The previous administration had a one-flag rule that the Biden administration has rescinded. Our U.S. flag represents the sacrifice, the honor, the unity, the patriotism–and the blood–that made America great. Pray for our nation and our leaders."
His comments follow similar ones from equally anti-gay former politician and twice-divorced Newt Gingrich who appeared on Fox News on Saturday night to slam the policy. "In an appearance on Fox News with Jeanine Pirro on her Saturday night show, Media Matters reports the GOP pol expressed offense by the news that the Biden administration has authorized it to be flown at U.S. embassies throughout the world. In his screed, he claims to speak for 'people with traditional values' and attacked what he calls Biden's radical agenda," EMN reported.
