Disney's Rainbow Collection Celebrates Pride, Supports LGBTQ Causes

In the run-up to Pride month, Disney has announced at Rainbow Collection of clothing and collectables that spread the rainbow joy, WTRF reports.

"The Rainbow Collection will give parts of the funds collected to organizations around the world that support LGBTQ+ communities," the article said.

The House of Mouse took to Instagram and other social media platforms to trumpet the celebratory line of products.

The Disney Parks Blog provided more detail, with Disney Parks, Experiences and Products Communications Manager Anthony Armenia announcing, "From apparel to accessories to pins and plush and so much more, there are more items in this collection than there are colors in the rainbow!"

The post included photos of T-shirts, sweats, ball caps, and other items of clothing emblazoned with rainbow colors and iconic Disney imagery such as Mickey Mouse. Pride-themed "Star Wars" and "Avengers" T-shirts, tying in with the Disney blockbuster movie franchises, were also pictured, and several "Lilo and Stitch"-related products were also included.

Plush toys, including Mickey and Minnie Mouse, are included in the collection, as are pins and other accessories like a "Mickey Ears" beanie, a belt bag, a mini-backpack, face masks, and even a multi-hued, Mickey Mouse-themed fan.

The Pride-themed swag won't just delight Disney fans; it will also help support a number of LGBTQ organizations. "The advocacy groups supported by Disney include GLSEN, Diversity Role Models, Minus18, BeLonG To Youth Services, ARELAS and the It Gets Better Project," the Christian Post reported.

"In recent years, Disney has made overtures to the LGBT community by introducing LGBT characters in its programming," the Christian Post recalled. "The Disney-Pixar animated film 'Onward,' released in March 2020, featured a lesbian character, making it the first film produced by the animation studio to feature an LGBT character.

"Later in 2020, Pixar's short film 'Out' became the animation studio's first production to feature a gay lead character," the article added. "Also, the Disney Channel cartoon 'The Owl House' became the network's first cartoon to feature a bisexual main character after the show's creator identified the sexual orientation of the protagonist last summer."

Disney's inclusivity has expanded in other ways as well, noted InsideTheMagic.com.

"We have seen Disney become even more inclusive with their park map for Disney's Hollywood Studios showcasing what seems to be two men skipping hand in hand towards Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway," the site pointed out.

"Many Marvel characters have included LGBTQ characters such as Guardians of the Galaxy's Peter Quill AKA Star-Lord, as well as the underground Captain America. Kelly Marie Tran has also said that Raya, from Raya and the Last Dragon, is gay, and Johnny Depp has said the same about Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean.
