A Washington, D.C. trans woman described how a trio of attackers left her with knife wounds to the arm and head in a brutal June 6 attack at a laundromat. A man and two women are suspects in the attack, in which the victim was beaten and stabbed while the attackers hurled anti-LGTBQ epithets, news sources said.

Victim Nysia Armstead, still recovering from her wounds, talked about the attack over the phone, local news channel WUSA 9 reported.

"I got stabbed in my head, where I have 18 stitches right here," Armstead told the news channel. "And I have like 40 stitches in my right arm."

Armstead said that the incident was sparked by "a disagreement over a washing machine and escalated into an attack that nearly cost her her life," the WUSA story added.

Washington, D.C. police are investigating the attack as a hate crime. Armstead agreed that her identity played a part in the assault.

"I do believe that I was attacked because of being transgender," she told WUSA. "They kept calling me 'f****! She was walking around, marching around calling me a 'f****!' I said man, just leave me alone."

Armstead described the emotional aftereffects of the knife attack. "It's like every day I'm looking at it that my life is almost been taken away," she told WUSA.

The attack, which took at the Capitol Laundromat on Benning Road, NE, in Washington, D.C., was "entirely caught on video," local news channel WUSA 9 reported, "but the video is far too graphic for us to show on TV."

The Metropolitan Police Department released an edited video that showed clips from the attack, along with blurry close-ups of the three "persons of interest" who were involved, the New York Daily News reported. In one still, a female suspect can be seen wielding what appears to be a knife.

The three attackers are all shown assaulting the victim with punches. The video shows that after the attack, the three gathered their laundry and departed the scene.

"A video of the same incident shared on social media earlier this week shows the woman clutching her head as blood pours onto the floor. At least two kids can be seen nearby at the time of the brawl," the Daily News said.

"A reward up to $1,000 is offered for information that leads to an arrest," WUSA reported.
