Award-winning singer-songwriter, actor, performer, published writer, LGBTQ activist, and motivational speaker Ryan Cassata joins EDGE Senior Editor Matthew Wexler and Recovery Unplugged's Director of Outreach, East Coast, Betsi Kreshover, for an intimate conversation about the power of music and recovery, including a live musical performance by Cassata.
The live event will stream on EDGE's and Recovery Unplugged's Facebook pages at 2 p.m. ET on Tuesday, July 27. Past series guests have included drag queen superstar Mrs. Kasha Davis and triathlete, model, and author Mark A. Turnipseed.
With over 600 performances nationwide and internationally and seven original and critically-acclaimed musical albums, Cassata was the first openly trans performer at the Vans Warped Tour. Featured performances have included Jazz at Lincoln Center, The Oregon Shakespeare Festival's Green Show, Global Pride and the world's biggest pride festivals, and SXSW in Austin, Texas.
Cassata's music has been featured on Sirius XM Radio, BBC Radio 4, and various other broadcast channels worldwide. He is the recipient of The ASCAP Foundation 2019 Mariana and Paul Williams "Sunlight of the Spirit" award, presented to an individual considered exemplary in recovery and music creativity for his song, "Jupiter."
Joining in conversation, Betsi Kreshover offers insights about the critical need for LGBTQ inclusivity and proper training in the drug and alcohol treatment industry and how Recovery Unplugged harnesses the power of music in its treatment programs.
