Jamie Lee Curtis Expresses 'Wonder and Pride' as Child Transitions

Jamie Lee Curtis described her "wonder and pride" at witnessing her youngest child transition and take on a new name. "Our son became our daughter Ruby," she shared in an interview with AARP magazine.

What's more, Ruby, 25, is engaged to be married next year, and Curtis plans to officiate, the well-known actor and philanthropist revealed.

The 62-year-old "Halloween" actor – who has written children's books and been a longtime supporter of children's causes through Syzygy, the foundation she founded with her husband of 35 years, Christopher Guest – made the revelation with Ruby's permission, the article said.

"The wide-ranging conversation touches on [Curtis'] 'great mental migration' that started in her 50s after raising her two children into adulthood, overcoming drug addiction and 'doing a whole lot of reading,'" The Hollywood Reporter summarized.

"Curtis told the magazine that in addition to other things she's letting go of," THR went on to recount, is "one of the biggest and oldest ideas: that gender is fixed."

Both Ruby and Curtis' elder child, Anne, are adopted, the Daily Mail noted. Curtis, whose own parents – Janet Leigh and Tony Curtis – were married multiple times, has great sympathies for the difficulties children sometimes face.

But a lack of acceptance isn't one of those things in Ruby's case. Curtis is the latest celebrity to not only reveal she has a transgender child but revel in sharing the news.

Last year, NBA star Dwyane Wade and wife Gabrielle Union introduced their transgender daughter, Zaya, to the world, and at the time explained that they not only accepted Zaya fully but took the opportunity to educate themselves. In previous interviews, Wade explained that "everything that I was taught went out the window and my sole job and responsibility was to make sure that this kid grew up knowing that they are supported and loved."

Years before that, Cher – herself a longtime LGBTQ ally and advocate – took pride in her transgender son, Chaz Bono, telling the media in 2009, "The one thing that will never change is my abiding love for my child."

Charlize Theron, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, Cynthia Nixon, and Warren Beatty and Annette Bening are among the many other celebrities who have publicly supported their transgender children.
