Dolly Parton Reveals She Invested Her Royalties From Whitney Houston Cover in Black Neighborhood

Dolly Parton revealed she used some of the royalties she received from Whitney Houston's cover of her song, "I Will Always Love You," to invest in a Black neighborhood, People reports.

During a recent appearance on "Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen," Parton, as per People, was asked about "the best thing she has ever bought with the royalties she earned from Whitney Houston's version of 'I Will Always Love You' – a song Parton, 75, originally wrote and recorded in 1973."

The country music icon answered that she invested "in an office complex in a Black neighborhood in Nashville, Tenn.," NPR recounted.

"Parton said she thought it was an apt way to honor the Black singer, who boosted the song's popularity with her cover," NPR added.

"It was mostly just Black families and people that lived around there," Parton told Cohen. "It was a whole strip mall. And I thought, 'This is the perfect place for me to be, considering it was Whitney.'"

"And I think, 'This is the house that Whitney built,'" Parton added.

Savvy about business and generous in her philanthropy, Parton has directly supported literacy, funded COVID-19 research efforts, and lent her financial clout to numerous charities, Forbes noted. It doesn't hurt that her songs have earned her enormous sums, as Houston's cover of "I Will Always Love You" alone brought in $10 million, as reported by Forbes.
