Lil Nas X Defeats DaBaby's Streaming Record As Most-Streamed Rapper

Lil Nas X is defeating homophobia on multiple fronts.

This week XXL reported that the out rapper surpassed DaBaby's Spotify streaming record to become the most streamed male rapper on the platform.

In a celebratory note, Nas X tweeted: "wow this is insane. this is the most i've ever had in my career. thank u to everybody listening."

"Currently, Lil Nas X has 52,018,693 monthly Spotify listeners while DaBaby trails behind with 51,882,271," reports XXL. "Drake is right after the North Carolina rhymer with 51,393,712 monthly listeners. Of the artists with the top monthly listeners, Nas X is now the most-streamed rapper on the platform."

In a recent interview with Variety, Nas X talked superstardom and sexuality. On DaBaby's homphobic statements making the news, he said: "The honest truth is, I don't want to speak on a lot of the homophobia within rap and whatnot because I feel like this is a very dangerous playing field, you know? It's more for my own safety rather than anything else."

His upcoming self-titled album, "Montero," will be out before summer is over. About being a pop star, he shared: "I see myself as a pop star, and I look at what pop stars have done and what they're not allowed to do. But then, also, look at the idea of an 'out' gay artist. It has to be very sanitized and it has to be very clean and they're not allowed to be actually sexual – not even using 'he' pronouns, sometimes," he said, Variety reports. "It's kinda like 'my lover' or 'my best friend.' I don't want to be that. I know some people had no choice but to be that, but I feel like I live in an era where I don't have to be that."

But all in all, pop superstardom has been good to Nas X. His sex life is "a lot more interesting, to say the least," he says, and he has since found love.

"You know how gay people meet guys," he said.
