Out 'Sex and the City' Actor Cynthia Nixon Disses Cuomo: 'I Still Have My Emmys'

When out "Sex and the City" actress Cynthia Nixon tried to primary then-New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo in 2018, Cuomo dismissed her as "a 'prosecco sipping' actress," the Associated Press recently recalled.

Now that Cuomo has stepped down in disgrace, Nixon has had the last laugh. In a scathing tweet, Nixon cracked: "The difference between me and Andrew Cuomo? Neither of us is governor, but I still have my Emmy(s)."

The jibe was in reference to Cuomo having won a special Emmy for "effective communication and leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic" –�only to have the award yanked after he resigned office.

"Cuomo was accused by several women of sexual misconduct," UK newspaper the Daily Mail summarized, "with an investigation by New York Attorney General Letitia James, which concluded that the governor 'sexually harassed multiple women,' which, 'violated federal and state law.' "

The Daily Mail added that following Cuomo's departure from office on Aug. 24, "the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences decided to rescind the special Emmy award he won for his daily COVID-19 briefings."

Moreover, the awards body announced that it was erasing Cuomo from the record. "His name and any reference to his receiving the award will be eliminated from International Academy materials going forward," the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences said in a statement.

Nixon has won two Emmys for her acting work: One in 2004 for her role as Miranda Hobbes in "Sex and the City," and one in 2008 for a guest appearance on "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit."

"She's also won two Tony Awards and a Grammy," Pink News noted.

Nixon has gone on to feature in last year's Ryan Murphy-produced Netflix series "Ratched," co-starring with Sarah Paulson, and is set to return in the "SATC" reboot, "And Just Like That..." on HBO Max.
