'Queer Eye' Snags Fourth Consecutive Emmy Win

Netflix's "Queer Eye" picked up its fourth consecutive Emmy for Outstanding Structured Reality Program in the Sept. 12 Creative Arts Emmys and "tied annual rival 'Shark Tank's' category record" in the process, Deadline reported.

"The Netflix makeover series, which won for its fifth season that debuted in June 2020, has won the award every year since 2018, equalling the record set by the ABC series, which won the four previous years," Deadline said.

"Queer Eye" is a reboot of the 2003-2007 Bravo series "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy". Executive Producer Rob Eric made reference to the brand's long history in his acceptance speech, saying, "In July, we celebrated 18 years of 'Queer Eye'." Eric went on to say that "kindness" had always been a value of the show. "If we just choose kindness, no matter what our differences are, whether it's in the bedroom or in politics, we can find common ground to become a better us."

The invocation of "kindness" echoed RuPaul's acceptance speech when he collected his sixth consecutive Emmy for Outstanding Host for a Reality or Competition Program for "RuPaul's Drag Race", Deadline reported.

Looking back at his start in television four decades ago with an Atlanta, Georgia public access station, RuPaul thanked "all the people in this business who've been kind," going on to add that, "the sweetness and the kindness are at the top of my list of human virtues. After that would be a big fat ass."

Eric added to his comments on the "Queer Eye" win backstage, according to Deadline, saying, "Anytime you win an Emmy it's the most awesome day ever."

"This is our fourth year in a row, so this year was super special to tie with 'Shark Tank', another incredible show. To have the most consecutive wins in this category was kind of bonkers and truly appreciated," Eric said.
