Could a collaboration with the Teletubbies be in Lil Nas X's future?

The out hip-hop artist's debut album "Montero", which dropped on Sept. 17, has a host of guests, including, as EDGE noted, "Elton John, Doja Cat, Megan Thee Stallion, and Miley Cyrus." But Variety reported, the Teletubbies weren't among them. That was something the brightly colored fixtures from kids' television evidently sought to correct next time, reaching out on social media with the query, "@LilNasX can we get a feature on the next album?"

The "Industry Baby" singer was up for it, retweeting the message and responding suggesting that a collab could include "me and tinky winky on the hook, dipsy & po on the verses and we'll let laa laa do the outro."

It wasn't the first overture the quartet had made to the "Montero (Call Me by Your Name)" artist. An Instagram post showed Po falling through a surrealistic dreamland and name-checked Lil Nas X's hit single "Industry Baby".

"While the proposal was made in jest, a collaboration with colorful, gibberish-speaking baby astronauts would be far from the most absurd thing Lil Nas has done in promoting 'Montero,'" Variety noted, citing the artist's extended pregnancy metaphor ahead of the album's release, a string of elaborate gags that included a baby shower, photos showing Lil Nas X with a pregnant belly, and, Variety said, a "ridiculously hilarious video, complete with a sidelong dig at DaBaby, in which Lil Nas is rushed to a hospital room before giving birth to his album."
The album was greeted by rave reviews, and Kid Cudi gave the artist props in a short piece written for TIME Magazine's 2021 edition of the 100 Most Influential People list.

In the short article, Cudi also proposed a collaboration, and vowed to stand by Lil Nas X in pushing back against homophobia in hip-hop.

"When I saw the tweet about Nas' album 'Montero' not featuring Black male artists, and he replied that 'maybe a lot of them just don't wanna work with me,' that made me sad," Cudi stated.

"There's a homophobic cloud over hip-hop, and he's going to break that sh-t down," Cudi continued. "We have to stand with him."

The Teletubbies have been having a cultural moment of their own, with lime-green Dipsy having been spotted on Frank Ocean's arm at the recent Met Gala Red Carpet. The quartet also released their own line of Pride accessories earlier this year – a collection that included "a bucket hat, sling bag, muscle tee and tube socks" and "a limited quantity of bespoke, made-to-order two-piece suits," according to a press release issued by the company behind the foursome, WildBrain.
