Watch: Mario Cantone Has Choice Words for Straight Actors in Gay Roles

Where are all the gay leading men? That is the question raised by out actor Mario Cantone during an appearance as a guest co-host on "The View." The "Sex and the City" actor had some choice words for straight actors taking on gay roles – at least until things change in Hollywood, reported Decider.

"Look, straight people have been playing gay guys forever, and we've all had to deal with that," Cantone explained. "Until there's equal parts ... people are like, 'Well, gay people shouldn't be able to play straight parts.' The amount of parts, the balance is way off. So that's why I would like to see a gay man playing a gay man all the time."

Cantone is set to reprise his role as Anthony Marentino in the "Sex and the City" revival, "And Just Like That..." In the series, his character is married to recently departed Willie Garson's Stanford Blatch.

About the role, Cantone quipped, "Everyone knows I'm playing a real womanizer straight guy. Sorry, heterosexual actors."

But Cantone went on to point out that there needs to be more opportunities for gay men.

"I'm talking about the romantic leading man movie star that's openly gay, and plays straight men, and plays gay men," Cantone said. "Where is he?"

Host Joy Behar posed another question: Will the audience be able to get past an actor's sexuality if they already know he is gay?

"It's acting!" Cantone responded.
