Gabrielle Union Slams Disney's Handling of 'Don't Say Gay' Bill

Actor Gabrielle Union is calling out her employer for setting a poor example.
Union is set to star alongside Zach Braff in a Disney+ reimagining of "Cheaper by the Dozen" but that hasn't stopped her from criticizing the Mouse House's handling of Florida's so-called "Don't Say Gay" legislation, reported Variety.
"Somebody asked me, 'Are you disappointed?' I'm disappointed when my order isn't right at In-N-Out. I don't even think that's a word that you could use for something like this, where children's lives are literally hanging in the balance," she said. "We need to own that if you truly are taking stands against hate and oppression, you should not fund hate and oppression. Period. The damage is done."
Union is stepmom to transgender social media star and fashion icon Zaya Wade, daughter of NBA legend Dwayne Wade. On the subject of "Don't Say Gay," which is waiting for Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis's signature, Union said many states are following in Florida's footsteps because there is no pushback from people in positions of power.
"Let's look who's donating to what and let's call people out... I think a lot of people like to confuse accountability and consequences for cancel culture," says Union. "And as long as you have a microphone and a stage that's not cancel culture, honey... We have to campaign and fund for those people who stand for all of us."
She's not wrong, as Georgia is looking at passing a similar measure.
The Walt Disney Company and CEO Bob Chapek have been the subjects of ridicule multiple times because of their inaction to protect the LGBTQ people who make the company millions.
After Disney released an ill-timed statement, employees rallied against Chapek's leadership with staff walkouts.
In response to anti-trans legislation happening in Texas, Union had this to say: "There are bad people controlling your fate, but we are working our asses off to make sure that not only do you survive but that you thrive."
