Watch: LGBTQ-Themed Library Again Target of Anti-Gay Vandals

A Waltham, Massachusetts, queer, roadside library is the victim of vandals for a fourth time after another person was caught on camera emptying the LGBTQ-themed "Little Free Library" of its books, reported Boston's WCVB5.

A lesbian couple that curates the mini library now worries how young people would feel coming out in a community where this happens because of books.

"We want to be a place where people are accepted and seen and celebrate who they are," said Katie Cohen, who curates the library with partner Krysta Petrie. "It makes me worry about young people scared about coming out and the reaction others might have and not feeling safe that way."

When the library was ransacked a second and third time, cameras captured the same person carrying out the vandalism. This time, a new "person of interest" was seen covering their face, according to local authorities.

Around $1,000 in books were reportedly stolen from the library, the couple said.

"They had a bunch of bags and spent 10 minutes, walked down sidewalk. ... It's like they know that we have a camera. They were careful to hide face and come at night," said Cohen.

"This last time they also scattered pencils on ground and ripped up our plants and put it into the book box," Petrie added.

Despite actions, people living in the area say they have the "best neighbors" and are offering their support to the project.

"This is ridiculous," commented Diane Coveney, a local resident. "Waltham is better than this."
