"Brokeback Mountain" stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway are reportedly in contention to star in the upcoming second season of the award-winning Netflix anthology series "Beef," according to Deadline.
The two played an unhappily married couple in the 2005 Ang Lee-directed drama, a love story about two gay cowboys in 1960s Wyoming. The late Heath Ledger played the other male lead.
Gyllenhaal and Hathaway were reunited onscreen in 2010 when they were cast as a heterosexual couple in the Viagra-inspired rom-com "Love & Other Drugs," Deadline noted.
The first season of "Beef" paired Steven Yeun and Ali Wong, with their characters embroiled in an escalating series of harassing pranks following a road rage incident.
"We hear that the storyline this time will revolve around two feuding couples," Deadline relayed, with Charles Melton ("May December," "Riverdale") and Cailee Spaeny ("Priscilla") reportedly being sought to play the other couple.
"Admittedly, this is early, and no deals are in place, but we understand that a limited season's worth of scripts were just turned in or are about to be," Deadline detailed, "and that Netflix and A24 are ready to get the second season into production by late summer or fall."
Will you be ready for a second helping of one of the meatiest series to hit the small screen of late?
