Travelers to Little Rock are always quick to discover a bevy of outsized surprises. Among those that stand proudly as LGBTQ+ enterprises, don't miss the mother-daughter owned all-vegan restaurant Blue Sage, whose popular crispy chick'n fingers, bodacious BBQ sandwich, Belgian waffles and more are all plant-based.

For a bite of international flavor, head to El Sur Street Food Co. and see what happens where "Central Arkansas meets Honduras and Latin America," say owner-husbands Luis Vasquez and Darren Strayhorn. Locals count on El Sur's Main Street location for house-made arepas, tamales, fried plantains, and house-specialty baleadas (a Honduran-style soft taco). Nearby, Raduno Brick Oven & Barroom is beloved for its handmade pasta, Italian sandwiches, and some of the state's best pizza. For a tasty baked bite, pop by The Bagel Shop to see what pastries are fresh from the oven.

Another Italian go-to is in the Heights (northwest of Downtown), where The Pizzeria lives up its name with classic wood-fired pies and calzones. In a bungalow in Hillcrest, Ciao Baci serves American and international cuisine on seasonally changing food and drink menus.

When night falls and cocktails call, LGBTQ+ travelers will enjoy convivial vibes at dog-friendly Lucky Lou's in River Market, and drinks and bites at nearby Six Ten Center bar and grill. In the same area, Club Sway stands out for zesty drag shows with marquee queens, making it "one of the most colorful nightlife experiences in the Bible Belt."

Near Hillcrest and the Arkansas River Trail, gay-owned nightclubs rev up after dark. Fridays at 10pm, the action starts at Triniti with live DJs, games, and two drag shows nightly. At chic Discovery, dance the night away at one of the mid-South's largest clubs, with multiple rooms, live drag, and a giant circular bar.

Neighborhoods to Love

Travelers will appreciate a few great neighborhoods where you can ditch your car and explore on foot. South Main Street between 12th and 17th Streets is the strip in "SoMa" that locals consider a blend of history and hipster stops, lined with charming shops, cafés, lounges, and more. There's a weekly farmers' market, a monthly vintage market, and special happenings cropping up all seasons.

The River Market District also is home to many of Little Rock's great museums, including the William J. Clinton Presidential Library & Museum, where you can take a seat in a replica White House and explore the former governor's and two-term president's journey from Hope, Arkansas.

No trip to Little Rock is complete without learning about the region's essential Civil Rights locations. Along the U.S. Civil Rights Trail, more than 100 pivotal sites connect across 14 states, allowing visitors to witness the landmarks that defined America's 20th-century civil-rights story. Little Rock is home to six sites, making it a top-10 trail destination.

One of the most popular attractions is the Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site and Visitor Center, which opened in September 2007 to mark the 50th anniversary of the school's desegregation.
