Moving from Boston to Miami: What You Need to Know
READ TIME: 3 MIN.
Making the transition from Boston to Miami was quite an adjustment. The two places are pretty awful. Saying that Boston is freezing, full of citizens and history is no understatement. When comparing these statements, I cannot forget that Miami is simply hot, easy and fresh. Here are important lessons I picked in the process of my relocation.
Do Not Underestimate Starting to Construct a Plan Early
Despite the distance that you intend to cover, you should still develop a plan of moving from Boston to Miami. Relocating long distances may take time 'cause it is impossible to do quickly. I started about three months before my move. As a result, I had sufficient time to pack everything, hire movers and adjust to new living conditions. Staying organized in this instance also made it possible for me to prevent the last minute rush.
Your Move Cannot Just Be Anytime
Choose a good time to move. There is no cold weather as summer is hot and humid and hurricane season lasts between June and November. I wanted to avoid the winter in Boston and hurricane season in Miami so I decided that Spring would be the best time to move. Moving companies will also have good rates during the off-peak season, so do not forget to request for discounts.
The Right Moving Company Makes a Difference
Searching for a suitable moving company came first. The only company I chose was the one which deals with long distance moves. The company also offers foreign and domestic relocation regarding packing and unpacking. The company has warehouses and transport vehicles of different sizes. It is fully European and has additional insurance cover. This is what made me feel safe and assured that my belongings were in good hands. The movers seemed to be real professionals and every piece of my property was in safe hands.
Packing Smart
Packing is something that people always dread. I packed my bags and planned on decluttering after the trip. I disposed of excess items, crowns rather more than sure. It helped in cutting down the amount of boxes necessary and of course the price of the move. I began packing from room to room and put a label on every box. This was very helpful when unpacking in Miami.
Understanding the Cost
Moving from Boston to Miami is a very expensive process. You have to cater for the movers, some packing materials, and even the traveling itself. You need to keep in mind the expenses to set up your new home. It can be something as basic as new house furniture, utility bills, and much more. Be careful to supplier many moving companies and avoid unexpected costs.
Preparing for Life in Miami
Miami contrasts very starkly to Boston. The sun shines throughout the year, and people have fewer indoor activities. It helps if one is moving from inside a cold country like Boston to Miami as they can get ready for the warmth and dampness. People need to wear less cloth and might consider looking for good air conditioning units as well.
My Experience Moving from Boston to Miami
Getting the chance to relocate from Boston to Miami was amazing for me. Being a Boston native, shifting from the freezing winters and the known environment was kind of emotional experience. There were some positive aspects about Miami – there is sun and there is no rush – but it comes at a price. I assumed the worst and prepared more for some major shock. And it was hot in Miami! I had to start wearing less clothing and go out more often in the open.
The move itself was of course hard work and stressful as it always is, though the company I hired for this job made it all less painful. They did all the loading at places and were quite gentle with my things. All of them were delivered on time and no damage was incurred and they even assisted with the unpacking. I was anxious as to how I will arrange the furniture in my new place, but it turned out that it was possible.
What troubled me most of the time was coping up with the comfortable way of living in Miami. But now I love spending time outdoors and I rather do not see the appeal of shoveling snow any more! It was a rough transition, but it was well worth it.
Moving from Boston to Miami was quite an emotional and physically draining experience, but I am glad I did it. The secret is to be organized, hire the right moving company, and account for the cultural variations between the two cities. It's a big move, but with the right preparation, it can go smoothly.
