David Beckham: Life of an Icon

I'm an American sports fan that really doesn't get the appeal of soccer. Perhaps if I saw a live soccer match it would change my opinion. I do enjoy learning more about famous sports figures though, so I figured David Beckham: Life of an Icon would be right up my alley. He has always struck me as more hype than real talent and this disappointing documentary didn't do much to change that view.

"David Beckham: Life of an Icon" is basically a slightly extended E True Hollywood Story posing as a serious documentary. It's trashy and watchable but I never felt I learned much new about the soccer star and fashion icon David Beckham. He's no doubt a very handsome and interesting fellow, but I would have preferred an authorized documentary instead of this tripe. You really lose an authentic feel without Beckham's participation in the film. The DVD I received was a screener and had no special features. DVD transfer was average at best, and hopefully the final release will look better. It has a blocky look to it.

"David Beckham: Life of an Icon" will only be of interest to die-hard fans of Posh and Becks, while others should consider it a rental at best. It does move quickly at 77 minutes long but don't expect an enlightening experience. This documentary is average at best.
