Provincetown makes getting hitched easier

Provincetown, Massachusetts has made getting married even easier for gays and lesbians. Since Massachusetts became the first state in the nation to allow same-sex marriages, Provincetown has become a leader in granting same-sex marriage licenses to residents and out-of-state visitors, with more than 2,000 licenses granted in five years, and wants to make sure it stays that way by extending the times marriage licenses can be obtained from town hall.

Marriage licenses are available Monday through Friday, at Town Hall, Jerome Smith Road at Fire House #3, 258 Commercial Street. The state of Massachusetts requires a three-day waiting period to obtain a marriage license.

"Provincetown has it all for gays and lesbians who want to be married in our beautiful town. We have the best wedding locations, the best food and we know how to throw a party," said Bob Sanborn, Provincetown Tourism Director. "Now, with marriage licenses available five days a week, we are making it easier for our wedding-bound visitors to get married here."

"The destination wedding that you always dreamed of is within your reach because it's so easy to get to Provincetown by land, sea or air," said Sanborn.

Provincetown is easily accessible from anywhere in the U.S. with connecting flights from Boston's Logan Airport to Provincetown Airport, by fast ferry and by bus or automobile.

"We are picture postcard perfect with breathtaking wedding locations such as the Pilgrim Monument atop High Pole Hill Road that gives you a 360 view of Provincetown Harbor. This is just one example of how special a Provincetown wedding can be with our unique setting at the tip of Cape Cod," said Sanborn.
