Lesbian NJ Waitress Suspended From Job

Dayna Morales, the New Jersey waitress who made headlines last month after a customer allegedly left her an anti-gay note in lieu of a tip, has been suspended from her job pending an investigation in to the incident, Asbury Park Press reports.

Morales came under fire last week after the family whom she accused of leaving the anti-gay note came forward and said that didn't write it, saying they gave her a substantial tip and support marriage equality.

"We've never not left a tip when someone gave good service, and we would never leave a note like that," the wife, who remains anonymous, said. Her husband went on to say that they have both worked in restaurants and know how important it is to tip.

The family spoke with NBC 4 New York about the incident and even provided the station with a copy of their credit card bill, which showed that the spent $111.55 at Gallop Asian Bistro, located in Bridgewater, N.J. The bill in question was $93.55, which means the family would have left an $18 tip.

NBC 4 New York then asked Gallop Asian Bistro's manager and owner about the incident. The officials, however, would not show a copy of the restaurant's receipt and could not explain why the family's credit card was charged more. They later said in a statement that they are aware of the allegations against Morales but had no comment, pending an internal investigation.

As Asbury Park Press reports, Gallop Asian Bistro posted on its Facebook on Nov. 29 and wrote, "Ms. Morales is currently not on our employee schedule while are still working to complete our investigation." A spokesman for the restaurant told the newspaper on Tuesday that the investigation should be complicated "very soon."

The incident began in early November when Morales wrote to the gay blog Have a Gay Day and claimed that a family of customers insulted her before leaving her a note that read, "I'm sorry but I cannot tip because I don't agree with your lifestyle & how you live your life," and no tip.

Her story went viral and people from around the country gave Morales money to make up for her lack of tip. Morales, a former marine, donated all the money to a veterans organization, Wounded Warriors.

It was also reported, according to Asbury Park Press, that Morales was discharged dishonorably from the Marines. According to sources, she was dismissed from the Marine Reserve Corps in May because she was not going to her drills.
