San Francisco police say an attack on two women during the city's Gay Pride festivities was a hate crime.

The women were walking to a transit station to return home to Contra Costa County around 5:30 p.m. Saturday when they were approached by five men in the city's South of Market neighborhood. Officer Albie Esparza says at least one of the men shouted homophobic slurs before they began kicking and punching the women.

One of the victims, who is 25, suffered head abrasions. The other, a 27-year-old, injured her wrist.

The women had attended Pride events. Police have not identified the suspects or made any arrests.
