EDGE READ TIME: 2 MIN.
This year's Southland Theater Artists Goodwill Event (S.T.A.G.E.) raises the curtain on May 9 with a star-studded cast at the Saban Theater in Beverly Hills. The annual production has been raising funds since the beginning of the AIDS epidemic and continues to benefit AIDS Project Los Angeles (APLA).
"Over the past 31 years S.T.A.G.E. has been among the most enduring sources of support for our HIV/AIDS care, prevention, and advocacy work," says APLA and APLA Health & Wellness Chief Executive Officer Craig E. Thompson. "We're not only excited to see the show, but we're grateful for the continued support of the work we do that's vital to thousands of Angelenos."
This year's production, titled "To Broadway, From Hollywood... With Love," will highlight many of the best musical numbers on Broadway that originated in Hollywood films. The all-star cast for this year's event includes: Obba Babatunde, Adrienne Baron, Mary Jo Catlett, Carole Cook, James Darren, Loretta Devine, Nancy Dussault, David Engel, Julie Garny, Thea Gill, Jason Graae, Gregory Harrison, Sally Kellerman, Jon Maher, Melissa Manchester, Pat Marshall, Patricia Morison, Robert Morse, James C. Mulligan, Donna Pescow, Jake Simpson, Sally Struthers, Donna Theodore, Lisa Vroman, and Adam Wylie. Additional performers will be confirmed soon.
Since its first show in 1984, S.T.A.G.E. has featured more than 300 stars of Broadway, film, and television, and has raised more than $5 million for APLA and other AIDS services organizations in Southern California. The funds raised through S.T.A.G.E. support a variety of critical services APLA and APLA Health & Wellness provide, including primary medical, dental, and behavioral health care services; the Vance North Necessities of Life Program food pantries; in-home health services; housing assistance; and HIV prevention and testing efforts, among many others.
AIDS Project Los Angeles (APLA) was founded in 1983 and is one of the largest nonprofit HIV/AIDS service organizations in the United States. APLA provides bilingual support to more than 6,000 people living with HIV/AIDS in Los Angeles County annually and leadership on HIV/AIDS-related policy and legislation. Additionally, APLA conducts behavioral research designed to inform the development of evidence-based interventions and assists health departments in evaluating their HIV/AIDS services to ensure the delivery of effective and quality programs.
APLA also provides administrative and fiscal support to the Global Forum on Men Who Have Sex With Men (MSMGF), which promotes and advocates for the health and human rights of MSM internationally. APLA is proud to be a community-based, volunteer-supported organization with local, national, and global reach. For more information, please visit apla.org
