'The Vagina Monologues' Comes to North Hollywood
EDGE READ TIME: 4 MIN.
On April 1-2, Maxie Solters, Studio City native and founder of V-Day Studio City, is bringing Eve Ensler's"The Vagina Monologues"to The Federal Bar, 5303 Lankershim Blvd., in North Hollywood.

"The Vagina Monologues"is a provocative, stimulating, poignant play depicting true stories about women's attempts to overcome society's stigmas through embracing and celebrating their sexuality.

The small but mighty Solters produces this hysterical, eye-opening, heart-wrenching piece for the ninth year. Solters co-stars with Allie Altschuler, Michelle Appezzato, Lauren Rodriguez, Nan Savage, Gena Shaw (who also directs), & Emily Short.

Proceeds benefit Peace Over Violence, a social service agency, dedicated to eliminating all forms of interpersonal violence through education and awarenessandA Window Between Worlds, an organization which uses art as a healing tool to empower and transform individuals and communities impacted by violence and trauma.

Solters became incredibly passionate about V-Day while attending USC, and was determined to continue raising awareness after graduation. In the fall of 2009, she returned to her hometown and created V-Day Studio City. V-Day and The Vagina Monologues have changed Maxie's life, and she has in turn become a powerful influence behind their worldwide campaign, One Billion Rising.

"People say college is about finding yourself," said Solters. "I discovered an inner strength and confidence since becoming part of this organization. I'm honored to work among the most inspiring women I've ever met, all of whom are still incredible friends today. One of the best parts about V-Day Studio City is getting to spend time with the amazing cast every V-season."

Solters' involvement in V-Day has taught her not to fear speaking out even if others shy away, saying, "It reminds me how lucky I am to be able to talk about these issues while others across the globe are forced into silence. The movement encourages women to speak out, proving that we really can make a difference."

V-Day is growing at a rapid pace throughout the world. It is currently in 130 countries from Europe to Asia, Africa and the Caribbean, and all of North America. The non-profit organization distributes funds to grassroots, national, and international groups and programs that work to stop violence against women and girls. In 2001, V-Day was named one of Worth Magazine's "100 Best Charities," and in 2006, one of Marie Claire Magazine's Top Ten Charities.
