Amy Ray Teams Up With Chely Wright and Tedeschi Trucks Band
EDGE READ TIME: 2 MIN.
Amy Rayis taking time from touring with the Indigo Girls for select shows with her country band, including co-billed dates with Chely Wright and shows supporting the Tedeschi Trucks Band.
Rayis joiningcountry artistChely Wrightfor a short co-billed fall tour and will be in Brooklyn on Tuesday, November 29 at the Bell House.Sheand her country band will be performing tracks from her rootsy solo album,"Goodnight Tender."
"We've learned some new stuff from older records of mine and a new tune I wrote recently, plus I'll be trying new songs out here and there -- I'm working towards material for a new solo record," said Ray."Mostly I just wanted to get out there and play some music... it's just some quick shows to kick up my heels a bit."
"Goodnight Tender"finds theGeorgia native exploring her Southern musical roots-- country, gospel, and roots with songs like"Duane Allman,"an ode to the late Allman Brothers guitarist and"Oyster and Pearl." The albummarks a dramatic departure from Ray's previous work, both as a solo artist and an Indigo Girl. The songs were written over more than a decade.
Ray recorded the album in Asheville, NC along with a group of trusted artists and collaborators, includingJustinVernon(Bon Iver)and guest vocalistsSusan Tedeschi, Heather McEntire (Mt. Moriah),Kelly Hogan(Neko Case)and members ofMegafaun.
Ray's sessions included fiddle, banjo, dobro, pedal steel, guitar, mandolin, bass, and drums gathered 'round a few microphones to create an authentic, vintage sound. Ray and her band have recently performed on Woodsongs Old Time Radio Hour, NPR Mountain Stage, Music City Roots in Nashville, TN and more.
Amy Ray will play with Chely Wright at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 29 at The Bell House, 149 7th St, Brooklyn, NY 11215. Tickets $20 For information or tickets, call 718-643-6510 or visit http://www.thebellhouseny.com
