READ TIME: 1 MIN.
Kristen Stewart is set to play Princess Diana in an upcoming film from the director of the Jackie Kennedy Onassis biopic "Jackie," Variety reports.
The film is called "Spencer," to be directed by Pablo Larrain, and focuses on a weekend in the early 90s when Diana decided to separate from Prince Charles. The script comes from Steven Knight ("Serenity," "Allied"), and production is expected to start in early 2021.
Variety writes:
"Spencer" will focus on Princess Diana over the course of one of her final Christmas holidays with the House of Windsor at the Sandringham estate. Diana Frances Spencer and Prince Charles married in 1981. The relationship was strained due to their incompatibility and extramarital affairs. The couple separated in 1992 and the marriage ended in divorce in 1996. She died in a traffic accident in Paris in 1997.
"Jackie" was released in 2016 and earned three Academy Award nominations, including Best Actress for Natalie Portman (who plays the former first lady).
Stewart is best known for starring in the "Twilight" film series but has gone on to star in a number of critically acclaimed films, including "Personal Shopper," "Certain Women," "Clouds of Sils Maria" and more.
