Pop Culturing: 5 of the Most Anticipated TV Shows of 2020

Fall is usually when some of the biggest, most anticipated and starriest TV shows of the year debut. COVID has put a wrench in some plans, forcing networks and streamers to shuffle things around or prevent production on a number of series ("Euphoria, "Succession" and "American Horror Story" to name a few). Despite the setback, there are still several stellar shows to check out this season. Below is a list of just five new TV shows debuting in the coming months that look promising.

"Ratched"

When: Sept. 18

Ryan Murphy's latest drama "Ratched" based on the iconic "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" character Nurse Mildred Ratched, played here by Sarah Paulson, looks to give the intense healthcare worker a backstory. The show will follow Ratched before the events of the film/book as she works at a leading psychiatric hospital in Northern California. One part Hitchock thriller and one part an over-the-top Murphy production, "Ratched" looks like a thrill ride with an all-star cast that also includes, Sharon Stone, Judy Davis, Cynthia Nixon, Jon Jon Briones, Finn Wittrock, Charlie Carver, Corey Stoll and more.

"We Are Who We Are"

When: Sept. 14

Created and directed by "Call Me By Your Name" filmmaker Luca Guadagnino, "We Are Who We Are" follows two young Americans living on a U.S. military base in Venice, Italy in 2016. Judging by the electric trailer, the show seems to be a coming-of-age story told through Guadagnino's vibrant lens. Judging from the trailer, the show looks to be a moving portrait of self-discovery for two youths figuring out their own identities. "We Are Who We Are" stars Jack Dylan Grazer ("It") and newcomer Jordan Kristine Seam�n as its leads with a supporting cast that includes Chlo� Sevigny, musician Kid Cudi, Alice Braga, Spence Moore II and more.

"The Good Lord Bird"

"The Good Lord Bird" might be one of the most vital TV shows debuting this fall. It's told from the perspective of a slave boy named Onion (Joshua Caleb Johnson), who is part of abolitionist John Brown's (Ethan Hawk) crew during the time of Bleeding Kansas (the violent uprisings that took place in the 1850s). The show follows the 1859 raid of the Army depot at Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, which many say is the incident that sparked the Civil War. Produced by Blumhouse Productions (which gave us "Get Out," "The Purge" franchise and much more) "The Good Lord Bird" boasts an impressive cast that includes Daveed Diggs, Wyatt Russell, McKinley Belcher III and Rafael Casal also star. Based on James McBride's 2013 novel, finds Hawke with three writing credits of the eight-episode miniseries.

"The Undoing"

When: Oct. 25

After "Big Little Lies" Season 2, Nicole Kidman returns to HBO to star in another book adaptation. Based on the novel "You Should Have Known" by Jean Hanff Korelitz, "The Undoing" also finds Kidman reuniting with TV veteran David E. Kelley, who wrote the script for the show, which is helmed by "Bird Box" director Susanne Bier. "The Undoing" follows Grace (Kidman) a very successful therapist who is about to publish her first book - until disaster strikes. Her husband Jonathan (Hugh Grant) goes missing, there's violence and death, resulting into a PR nightmare for Grace. The miniseries also stars Jason Lee, �dgar Ram�rez, Noah Jupe, Lily Rabe, and more.
