Lifetime has released a new trailer for its LGBTQ-themed holiday movie "The Christmas Setup," starring real-life married couple Blake Lee and Ben Lewis.
"The Christmas Setup" is the network's first holiday movie with a lead LGBTQ storyline. In the film, Hugo (Lewis), a lawyer from New York City, goes to Milwaukee with his BFF Madelyn ("GLOW" star Ellen Wong), to spend the holidays with his mom Kate (Fran Drescher), who happens to be in charge of the local Christmas festivities - and who has assigned herself the task of making sure her gay son meets Patrick (Lee). But even if Yuletide sparks fly, will the two men have a future, given that Hugo has been offered a promotion that would take him overseas?
"The Christmas Setup," premiering Dec. 12, follows on the heels of several other groundbreaking Holiday offerings with LGBTQ themes. This past Sunday, Nov. 22, the Hallmark Channel premiered its first holiday movie to feature a gay male couple, "The Christmas House," starring Jonathan Bennett and Brad Harder. Hulu's "Happiest Season," a romantic lesbian holiday comedy starring Kristen Stewart and MacKenzie Davis, hits the streaming service on Nov. 25. "A New York Christmas Wedding," written and directed by Otoja Abit, is currently streaming on Netflix.
