HBO Exec Reveals Fate of Kim Cattrall's Samantha Jones in 'Sex and the City' Reboot

Kim Cattrall won't be part of the "Sex and the City" reboot which means the show will have to figure out how to handle the absence of her iconic character, Samantha Jones. HBO executive Casey Bloys revealed to TVLine this week just what the plan is.
Though some thought Samantha would die – especially since Sarah Jessica Parker revealed COVID would part of the reboot's plot – Bloys, HBO Max's chief content officer, explained that Samantha's friendship with Carrie (Parker), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) and Charlotte (Kristin Davis) simply fell apart.
"Just as in real life, people come into your life, people leave," he said. "Friendships fade, and new friendships start. So I think it is all very indicative of the real stages, the actual stages of life."
He added that the reboot, called "And Just Like That," is about the women growing up.
"They're not trying to say that these characters are reliving their 30s," Bloys went on to say. "It is very much a story about women in their 50s, and they are dealing with things that people deal with in their 50s. They're trying to tell an honest story about being a woman in her 50s in New York. So it should all feel somewhat organic, and the friends that you have when you're 30, you may not have when you're 50."
