In Wake of New Britney Spears Doc, Perez Hilton Says He 'Regrets' Blogging About Singer

Perez Hilton is showing remorse for Britney Spears and says he "regrets" blogging about her in the 2000s, reports The Independent. His comments come not long after The New York Times/FX/Hulu documentary "Framing Britney Spears," which partly chronicles the way in which the media treated her.

"I regret a lot or most of what I said about Britney as I'm sure Piers [Morgan] would if he were here about things he's said in the past," Hilton said on a Monday appearance of "Good Morning Britain." "Thankfully, hopefully, many of us get older and wiser."

A clip of Hilton talking about the singer appears in the documentary.

He went on to defend journalist Diane Sawyer, who is facing social media backlash over her interviews with Spears.

"Someone who was talked about in this documentary briefly, Diane Sawyer – a respected journalist, a good woman – but many people are painting her out to be a villain," Hilton said. "I think a lot of fans and folks just want to blame this person and that person, but it's not as simple as that. There are real, mental health issues at play with Britney Spears."

Justin Timberlake also recently apologized to Spears. The doc focused on their highly publicized breakup in 2002 and the way in which the media blamed Spears for their split while Timberlake was seen as a victim.

"I've seen the messages, tags, comments, and concerns and I want to respond. I am deeply sorry for the times in my life where my actions contributed to the problem, where I spoke out of turn, or did not speak up for what was right. I understand that I fell short in these moments and in many others and benefited from a system that condones misogyny and racism," he wrote.

In December he was permanently banned from TikTok, at which time he made this impassioned plea for reinstatement on Twitter.
