Chris Crocker's viral "Leave Britney Alone!" video from the early 00s helped launch the #FreeBritney movement and ushered in the era of the "famous for being famous" celebrity. Now the YouTuber is selling the piece of 2007 digital history to the highest bidder as a non-fungible token (NFT).

As reported by MediaITE, the video could fetch around $21,000 in cryptocurrency according to information posted on its bidding page through the Foundation App.

NFTs provide proof of ownership for digital content. Like purchasing art from an auction, the winning bidder of Crocker's video will then be free to license and sell the video as they want.

"I made this video as a gender-bending teenage high school dropout in my grandparent's bedroom," wrote Crocker, who dabbled in adult entertainment years after his viral fame, about the video's description. "I had no idea the impact its message would have, years later, maybe society is finally starting to get it :-)."

The "it," Crocker refers to being the media treatment of Britney Spears' very public breakdown in 2007 and the documented troubles to regain her independence, recently highlighted in the documentary, "Framing Britney Spears."

Uploaded on YouTube on September 10, 2017, the video has been viewed more than 5 million times and was the second most discussed video on the platform by 2009.

Since then, the video has been parodied across multiple mediums and posted in various forms online. An NFT grants ownership to the original video.
