Watch: Gay Hockey Fan Says Trio of Attackers Hurled Homophobic Slurs

A gay Boston Bruins fan says three Avalanche fans zeroed in on him with anti-LGBTQ+ slurs and beat him up at a sports bar after a game, local news station WCVB reported.

"At first, it was more of a hockey banter type of thing from them. 'Oh you lost,'" Caiden Shaw told the news outlet. "I remember saying something along the lines of, 'We'll get you next time.'"

But the joshing quickly spiraled into an alleged bias crime, as the three crowded in on Shaw and started hurling homophobic epithets, he said.

"Shaw told Denver7 News that one of the three men positioned himself face-to-face with Shaw and used a homophobic slur. Shaw said he then nudged that man out of fear in an effort to create space between them, and that is when he was attacked," WCVB relayed.

"From there, they tackled me to the ground and were calling me fag, gay," Shaw said according local newspaper The Denver Post.

"My head was in my arms, and I was kind of in a ball while they were kicking me," Shaw went on to say.

"I've got some injuries to my knee, some bruises to my knee and elbow, and then I had a knot in the back of my head," he told Denver 7 News.

"It makes me think back to that younger kid, whenever I didn't want to come out to fully be myself and the reasons why you don't do that," Shaw told the media. "And these are why you're scared to."

But the brave Bruins supporter won't be scared off showing up for his favorite team. "If the Bruins are there, I'll be there," the undaunted fan told Denver 7 News.

Meanwhile, "The Denver Police Department confirmed their Bias Motivated Crime Unit is investigating the matter," the Post noted.
