PopUps: Shonda Rhimes Destroys Twitter User Complaining About Gay Sex Scenes
Jason St. Amand READ TIME: 2 MIN.
As promised, show runner Shonda Rhimes' new ABC hit show "How to Get Away With Murder" is packed with lots of (gay) sex. But one fan of the show who found the same-sex scenes a little too hot and steamy decided to tweet Rhimes about it over the weekend... and was destroyed by the producer.
"@shondarhimes the gay scenes in scandal and how to get away with murder are too much. There is no point and they add nothing to the plot," Twitter user Dina Abdel Hakiem tweeted to Rhimes, who also created the hits "Scandal" and "Grey's Anatomy."
E! Online reports it didn't take long for Rhimes to craft her comeback:
"@Dabdelhakiem What gay scenes? 'Gay' scenes?" she tweeted. "There are no GAY scenes. There are scenes with people in them. If you are suddenly discovering that Shondaland shows have scenes involving people who are gay, you are LATE TO THE PARTY."
Rhimes added, "If u use the phrase "gay scenes", u are not only LATE to the party but also NOT INVITED to the party. Bye Felicia. #oneLOVE"
Fans shouldn't be too surprised to see lots of sex scenes in "How to Get Away With Murder," which stars the fabulous Viola Davis. The program's creator, Peter Nowalk, told E! last month that there would be plenty of man-on-man action because "it's part of life."
"I knew I wanted to push the envelope, especially with the gay sex," he said. "And to me, writing the gay characterization and writing some real gay sex into a network show is to right the wrong of all of the straight sex that you see on TV.
"Because I didn't see that growing up, and I feel like the more people get used to two men kissing, the less weird it will be for people," he continued. "I just feel like it's a lack of vision that you don't see it on TV, but ABC has never had a note about any of the weird stuff in the show, so I'm gonna keep it going."
