American Horror Story: Freak Show
Ken Tasho READ TIME: 2 MIN.
The freaks are back in town.
The October release of "American Horror Story: Freak Show" will entice fans to purchase the 3-disc Blu-ray set and watch alongside of the show's latest hotel incarnation. Reliving all the highs and lows of the fourth season of creator Ryan Murphy's nightmarish FX show only tips the iceberg; there's also a plethora of special features to enjoy.
Naturally my girl Jessica Lange steals the limelight again (apologies to the show's other stars) in, sadly, her swan song season of the hit show. Lange's portrayal of the eccentric Elsa Mars goes down in the annals of "American Horror Story" as her liveliest and most challenging. Watching her chew scenery will be sorely missed.
Also challenging in Season Four was to top the premiere episode, which seems to be an ongoing trend with Mr. Murphy's horror anthology show. But the 13 episodes presented here in glorious high definition cannot be overlooked and add to an already notorious FX series.
Six featurettes (a step up from the previous season's release) complement 20th Century Fox's Blu-ray. And not to bitch and moan too much, but of the six of them, none feature cast interviews, how "Freak Show" came to fruition, or anything spectacular, really. They mostly deal with the characters on the show and how the special effects come into play.
"Getting Freaky: A Peek Inside the Tent" - a brief look at the characters and sets used in season four.
"Two Heads Are Better Than One" - examines the two-headed characters played by the talented Sarah Paulson.
"Twisty: Behind the Mask of Terror" - a look at the freaky clown serial killer featured in "AHS: Freak Show".
"Freaklore: The Spectre of Edward Mordrake" - Wes Bentley's unique character is featured in this brief featurette.
"AHS: Freak Show Extra-Ordinary Artists" - interviews the real-life "freaks" from the 4th season.
"The Premiere" - a Red Carpet premiere with the cast.
