Entertainment is Becoming More Inclusive Than Ever
READ TIME: 3 MIN.
Between 2007 and 2019, 37% of gay bars shut their doors. With rent increases going far beyond what most landlords can afford, combined with the rise in dating apps, it's safe to say that there is a cultural shift happening. With that being said, gay bars and entertainment establishments aren't coming to an end. They are changing and in a very positive way.
Entertainment Is Becoming More Inclusive
When you break it all down, it's easy to see that entertainment is moving online faster than ever before. In the past, if you wanted to go to a casino, you'd have to find one in your local area, or travel out of town. Now, you can play live casino games online. When you do, you'll have access to a real dealer, along with all the betting options of a standard casino. Live streaming is no longer limited to just TV, it's also being used to stream games, and this is creating a new and exciting avenue of entertainment. As we move to a more online world, this is leading to the creation of new and exciting shows, as it's easier to target worldwide audiences.
TV shows such as RuPaul's Drag Race are now soaring in popularity, and are often streamed through a number of online platforms. Hit shows like Queer Eye are also known for bringing in lots of viewers on the Netflix platform. People who aren't on the LGBTQI+ spectrum still find a lot of entertainment in watching shows like this.
This shift has helped the community to be more embraced, and it has also helped people adopt a more inclusive approach. Although there will always be a need for safe spaces for those who are part of the LGBTQI+ community, it's a very positive movement that venues across the world are becoming more inclusive of people on the LGBTQI+ spectrum. This is leading to less of a need for specific venues, and instead, leading to a rise in all-encompassing establishments.
With newer shows like Euphoria featuring several queer characters, it's safe to say that the gay movement has never been more welcomed in mainstream digital media. This is a major, positive shift and it is also helping to blur the lines between gay and straight culture. People are also finding more ways to identify themselves too, creating a melting pot where everybody is accepted, and people can be free to be who they want to be.
An Insight to The Future
So it seems that gay entertainment establishments are dying out, but for a very good reason. The world is becoming more inclusive, to the point where gay bars are a thing of the past. Now everyone can go to every bar and feel included and accepted, and even though some establishments do focus on catering to the LGBTQI+ community, everyone is still very much welcome. This cultural shift is long overdue, and it is helping people to feel more comfortable in their skin, as well as within the local community. It's how it should be, and moving forward, it wouldn't be surprising to see more and more representation in the entertainment sector.
In the media, gay rights are covered more, and awareness is being promoted. Some of the biggest entertainment brands, including Netflix, are creating shows about LGBTQI+ families, and finding new ways to make their content more inclusive. This is transferring to physical entertainment establishments, and as time goes on, we are gradually taking steps forward to ensure that people are welcomed everywhere, at all times. It's also ensuring that everyone feels as though they can express themselves freely, across every aspect of their lives.
